The University of Missouri recently had a judgment against them from a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit charged the University with illegally charging tuition. The judge rejected the university's argument that "fees" were different from "tuition". My own university, the University of California (UC), has likewise charged "fees" for many years, despite the fact that the act establishing the university calls for a tuition-free education for California residents. - Was there ever a class-action lawsuit against UC for illegally charging tuition ? - Is there anything that puts UC in a stronger or fundamentally different legal position than the University of Missouri? |
