Hi,
Your question's enormously interesting, particularly with the
clarification you added. However, that clarification also makes
answering it trickier, because it relies on direct commentary from Ms.
Lee, who officially stopped granting press interviews in 1964.
What I've come up with are two interviews from the early Sixties, one
of which goes into some detail regarding her literary contemporaries
and the state of the novel. There are also a couple of articles which
cite her favorite authors, and of course links to more general
information about Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird.
If you think this is sufficient, please let me know and I'll post the
information as an answer.
Thanks,
