We have these 2 pieces of Henriot china, passed down from my wife's Grandfather. We estimate their date of origin to be around the 1920-30s. We would like to know any information about these particular peices (not the henriot line in general) and their current market value. http://www.collectiondx.com/auction/henriot1.jpg http://www.collectiondx.com/auction/henriot2.jpg http://www.collectiondx.com/auction/henriot3.jpg |

Here is a link with the H. Q. markings: http://www.libertys.com/quimper.htm but the markings don't help narrow down the date beyond what you have stated. The phrases mean, roughly, "He who marries in haste repents at leisure" and "Never make love on Saturday that you couldn't make on Sunday". Perhaps your grandparents received these as wedding gifts or bought them on a honeymoon? It appears that these are small souvenir dishes, which were produced in large quantities, a good size for a pin or soap dish. Although the shape and pattern are unusual, the decoration is not what typical Quimper collectors seek. In an online auction, assuming that they are in good condition with no fleabites or cracks, I would place a reserve of $35 for the pair and would expect a closing price of $40 or $45. Personally, I wouldn't sell them, given that they were your grandfather's, their attractiveness, and clever sayings. I hope this helps. |
