Please let us know what country and (presuming it's the U.S.) state
you're in, and even better...what school you attend.

Hello reynolcm-ga,

What will be the purpose of your Web site? How will you differentiate
yourself? Who will benefit from it? Might you get server space from
your school? This is how Yahoo! started at Stanford. Stanford also
hosted a site by a graduate student named Dane Spearing that started
out as a service to the student community. (
http://www.job-hunt.org/about.html ) Have you looked at partnering
with your department or with the college career center? Have you
investigated how others at your school (or at other schools) have set
up such Web sites? Do you want to explore other ways of funding your
project? I’d love to help you find a way to make it real.

czh

In the meantime, here are some others who’ve set up related sites.

Hi czh - Most premed websites do not contain much content (with the
exception of srudentdoctor.net). I would like to create a content
based site with medical news, a discussion page, interviews with med
students and doctors, student research pages, a page with info for
each specialty, mcat helps (already on some sites), discussions of
managed care and ethics of medicine. Some sites have mediocre
treatment of some of the above, but I would like to integrate it all
into 1 site. I'm looking for any way to fund the programming (html,
perl, flash) becasue I don't know how to do that part. I already have
the site hosted (cheap compared to web development). I have tried
some departments at school and haven't gotten to far. I'm not
interested in making money, just in producing a quality site. Thanks
for your help -

Hello;

There are several avenues available to you. The US government spends
billions each year in grant programs to help stimulate economic growth
and capitalize on the latest innovations. The place to start looking
for a federal grant is with the CFDA, The Catalog of Federal Domestic
Assistance. Click on the link http://www.cfda.gov/public/faprs.htm,
from here you can access any grant in the catalog. Half way down you
will find the heading Find a Grant. This takes you to a page listing
grants by category, i.e., agriculture, health, education and so forth.
You can browse any category and read the requirements for the grant.
Go to the heading Health, then click on Health Services Planning and
Technical Assistance, then Distance Learning and Telemedicine Loans
and Grants. The objective of this grant is to “encourage and improve
the use of telemedicine…..to provide educational and medical benefits
through distance learning….” This may be the grant you’re looking
for. Also, on the CFDA’s homepage, http://www.cfda.gov, is a listing
of features to walk you through applying for a grant with the CFDA.
Following is a list of agencies willing to help you find a grant:

GrantsNet
http://www.hhs.gov/grantsnet
The US Department of Health and Human Services. Listing of grants
with the department and help in applying.

The Small Business Administration
http://sba.gov
A great place to start, your local office can give you one-on-one and
answer additional questions you may have.

FirstGov.gov
http://firstgov.gov/Topics/nonprofits.shtml
Listing of all non-profit grants.

American Grant Provider Network

Good luck!

Such grant-making agencies would almost certainly make such grants
only to a non-profit organization with a US federal tax exemption. Do
you have that?
