While the slot loading combo drive is very frequent on the Mac side of things, it's almost unheard of in the PC world. There are many slot loading single-fuction drives, most notably the Pioneer line of DVD drives, but there are no combo drives for the desktop. You will however find the slot loading combo drive in use in many laptops. I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but if you find it acceptable, please let me know. Also, maybe another researcher can find a part which I am not familiar with. skermit-ga |

I'm aware that they are indeed rare but are out there. The Matrix VPR uses one http://www.zdnet.com/supercenter/stories/review/0,12070,562402,00.html as does this sleek looking thing http://www.soldam.com/barebone/polo_r/detail.html however I still can't find an actual part number or a place to buy one. |

I realise they are both laptop drives but I can make that work pretty sure there aren't any desktop combo drives out there |

Um... did you fully read my comment? I know that there are laptop combo drives. That's just it though, on the PC side, there aren't desktop drives. There are Mac combo drives, it's standard with all of the latest Macs actually. skermit-ga |

I did read the comment and what I'm saying is that I can make a laptop drive work in a desktop but I still need a model number and vendor for a slot loading dvd/cdrw combo drive. |
