Hi,

What is the annual budget of the eduication department of the National
Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC?

The initial Federal Budget last year was $5000.00 for the education
department. They did get a new budget toward the end of the year which
brought that up to $10,000. The rest of the monies came through
grants, and donations, and various other incomes such as sales at the
gift shop etc. Currently there is no budget in place, and they are on
a freeze, working off a single grant for pencils and office supplies,
until Congress makes some decisions.

How many schools attend programs on site, given by the education
department of that museum?
Booked schools attending the education department are 300 last year.
Other schools do show up for Science Demonstrations but they do not
have to book themselves for these.

What grade levels participate in in site programs at that museum?
Primarily K-12 students with a high percentage of those being grade
school level. This is a linguistics thing, since it is much easier to
get kids out for the day in elementary school than in the
high-schools, the high-schools just don't have enough time to get
there and back in a 45min class period, so special arrangements have
to be made on their side.

Where are the schools located that participate in on site programs at
that museum?
Primary is the Washington DC area, and secondary is the mid-Atlantic
region. Though they do have bookings for other schools which extends
along the east coast.

How many on staff in the education department of the National Air and
Space Museum?

5 main staff. With 4 floating positions. Interns are 1-2 in the winter
and 1-2 in the summer depending on the budget.

What are the salaries of the program director and other staff of the
education department of that museum?

The range of positions there are GS5 to GS13 (support staff -
managerial position) The salary range is high 20's to low 70's for
these positions respectively.

They were very helpful on the phone and willing to talk openly about
all of these questions.

Thanks,
