This seems to be two questions as sexual identity is one of many kinds of identity and culture also has broad meanings. The theatre rivals the printed word and one on one contacts for expressing sexual identity and notions of culture and identity. Success is limited only by the skill of the playwrite, the director, actors, seanary, and the receptiveness of the audiance. So to a great extent. Neil |

I would add that one of theater's primary roles in society throughout the ages has been precisely that. I think to get an answer, you might want to get more specific about what you're looking for... First off, do you specifically mean sexual identity? Assuming you do, are you looking for plays that highlight or explore the issue particularly thoroughly/poigniantly, essays on theater's impact on sexual identity in culture, theater's general historical ability to reflect sex in society, etc? Beyond that, given the very broad scope of the question, I think raising the price will make it more likely to be answered... Just my theater loving two cents :) Best, Rebeccam-ga |
