running windows 98, the screen saver is leaving "boxes" on the task
bar. some labled "screen saver" and some empty. microsoft web site
offers a solution...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;280722

but the file "260067.inf" is not found on my machine. other people
have had the same problem...

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/t1038194053

and the general concensus is that this is a MS quirk that we just have
to live with. $5 to anyone who can solve the problem without
having to reinstall the entire OS.

Unfortunately, this IS an MS quirk that has been cussed and discussed
at great length. If it helps any, you can usually just click on them
and they'll go away.

If it's just the presence of these leftover boxes that irritates you,
you can hide your taskbar from view. It'll not only create the feel of
a larger monitor, it'll put these annoyances out of view.

To auto hide the taskbar, follow these directions:

Right-click any blank portion of your taskbar.

Click on Properties from the menu.

The Taskbar Properties box will appear. On the Taskbar tab check the
"Auto hide" box.

Hit the Apply button at the bottom right.

This will make your taskbar disappear until you mouse over its
location.

Other than that, I don't believe there is currently a "real" technical
solution to this known problem. If this suffices as an answer please
let me know.
