I found these statements:

"The Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager were first introduced to the
world in 1983, but Chrysler had actually started working on them in
1977, with full development starting in 1980."

AND...

“Research conducted in 1978 showed that … The rear opening preference
was divided between a one-piece lift-gate (preferred by sedan owners)
and a station-wagon type two-part gate (preferred by station wagon
owners).”

MINIVAN INFORMATION

This seems to imply that liftgate minivans may have been made the only
type of MINIVAN ever made by Dodge or any of its co-manufacturers
(Plymouth, and later, Chrysler, etc.).

If this suffices as an answer please post a comment here and I will
post it as such.

Thank you

Dodge or "Chrysler or Plymouth" all the same made a few of these vans
for work, without windows or seats. Some of these had double or 2
doors in the back instead of a liftgate, like the old Chevy Carryall
or Surburban. If you go to this link and look at the middle picture
you can see what I mean:

I found the same info you found as well. I would like to know which
Dodge or Plymouth minivans from 1983 to 1990 came with this option and
what years they fit on from 83 to 90. Does this help? Thanks for your
help.

This seems to be a little tougher then I thought it would be so I
upped the amount a little to hopefully make it worth the effort,
Thanks.

Dear kickjoke:

In researching your question I was unable to find an actual photo or
an actual reference to any Dodge, Chrysler or Plymouth Minivan
products that were built with swinging doors, cargo doors, hinged
doors or split rear doors but I came across a number of Chevrolet and
GMC minivan products that did.

I called Tim Parker Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge/Jeep-Eagle, a very
reputable new and used car dealership in my area that not only sells
vehicles but also specializes in body repair, and I also called
AUTOZONE and spoke to their parts desk. Both advised me that Dodge did
indeed produce a minivan from 1992 to 1994 that offered hinged rear
doors as a pre-ordered option and that they are interchangeable for
these years.

Honestly, prior to receiving this information I was under the
impression that Dodge had never made such a vehicle because I had
never seen or even heard of one. I also found not a single reference
on the internet to even one that was for sale, being repaired, or
being made. These sources assured me however, that Dodge did in fact
offer a model like the one you mentioned for 2 ½ to 3 years. As
popular preference tended to gravitate toward the liftgate in an
effort to capture some of the more family oriented station wagon like
qualities of the minivan, the double rear door option was abandoned
with the introduction of the 1995 model.

I realize that this does not provide you with the solid proof you are
seeking but it turns out that its the best I have. I decided to "run
this up the pole" as a comment and let you judge whether or not this
suffices as an asnwer. If so, I'd be pleased to post it as one. Just
let me know.

Regards;
