Hello note3742-ga,
I have found two web pages stating that Gimbels bought Schuster's in
1962.
"Billie2", by Jan Uebelherr of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel staff

"[events] 75th Annual Holiday Parade: This Saturday, 11/17 @ 9:30am"
by Richard Gagliano (13 Nov 2001) [about halfway down the page]

I talked with a reference librarian at The Milwaukee County Historical
Society. He explained that Gimbels bought Schuster's, and that while
some people referred to the Schuster's stores as "Gimbels/Schuster's",
they were really just Gimbels once Gimbels had bought the other chain.
I hope that this information is helpful.
