I want to know in what year did Gimbels-/Schuster's stores in
Milwaukee, WI become just Gimbels. It probably would have been in the
1950's or 60's. Thanks.

Hello note3742-ga,

I have found two web pages stating that Gimbels bought Schuster's in
1962.

"Billie2", by Jan Uebelherr of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel staff
[about 3/4 down the page]
Retro-Milwaukee
http://www.retrocom.com/retromilw/billie2.htm

"[events] 75th Annual Holiday Parade: This Saturday, 11/17 @ 9:30am"
by Richard Gagliano (13 Nov 2001) [about halfway down the page]
lists.msoe.edu Mailing Lists: The Events Archives

I talked with a reference librarian at The Milwaukee County Historical
Society. He explained that Gimbels bought Schuster's, and that while
some people referred to the Schuster's stores as "Gimbels/Schuster's",
they were really just Gimbels once Gimbels had bought the other chain.

I hope that this information is helpful.

I used the following search terms, in various combinations, on Google
and Google Directory:

gimbel
gimbels
schuster
schusters
milwaukee
"christmas parade"
"holiday parade"
parade
milwaukee
historical
