I'd like to know where I could find the 'average profitability &
expense percentages for businesses' by state and by zip code. To be
perfectly clear, I'd like to be able to do the exact same benchmarking
exercise found at www.bizstats.com/ (which has national percentages
for profitable, one owner unincorporated businesses), but I would like
get the same information for California and by zip within CA. As with
bizstats, I would like to be able to compare the expense percentages
of businesses by industry (SIC).

I'm willing to do the legwork of compiling data myself from state or
US publications (xls, pdf, etc.), if that's the best we can get, but
the goal is to be able to perform benchmarking by SIC and zip code.

Substantial tip promised for a "WOW" answer. Thanks in advance.

Could you confirm that the following link at Bizstats:

http://www.bizstats.com/spprofitscurrent.htm

is the one to which your question refers. If not, could you please
provide a direct link to the correct Bizstats list. Thanks.

At the Bizstats homepage, under 'Benchmark your business in 5 seconds!
', select an industry and enter a value for 'Business Total Revenue',
and hit Compute. The results that are generated are what I'm trying
to replicate on a state and local level. Thanks.
