Is it possible to somehow melt gluegun glue? Several years ago I glued Christmas ornaments together to form a wreath. Storage in my Lafayette, LA attic was not a good idea. The wreath is coming apart due to the extreme heat. I would like to salvage the remaining ornaments if possible. |

lindarob.. Thanks for your question. The fact that your wreath is coming apart due to the heat in your garage is your first step in getting your ornaments back. Glue guns use heat to melt glue sticks. When the melted glue cools, it hardens to form an adhesive. There are two methodsThe first step is to remove as much of the excess hardened glue as possible by using a scraper (putty knife, spatula, etc). If the ornaments are small enough, you can put them in your refrigerator or freezer to harden the glue even more so. This will make it more brittle which will make it a bit easier to chip off the glue. If there is still an amount of glue on the ornaments, try using your hair dryer to soften the remaining glue and peel it off. Good luck in getting your ornaments back into shape. If you need any additional clarification, please let me know. There is another way to remove glue gun glue--you can use Bestine to dissolve it. Bestine is the brand name for a solvent/thinner for rubber cement--should be easily found at any hardware store. Ideally, you should use a syringe bottle and just put a few drops on the hardened glue. When you use it, make sure there's adequate ventilation and try not to get any on your skin, but you don't need much and it works immediately. Hope that helps! |
