I also found DAKAR RALLY UK a very informative site. It has a lot of
history about the race and a photo gallery.

But don’t worry. I found an even better way for you to get the video
you want and you won’t have to relay on the Internet’s lame
multimedia! If you can get the SPEED CHANNEL (also called SPEEDVISION
and SPEEDTV) or know someone who has it (or can order it for a short
time) a one-hour special recapping the entire 19 days of Dakar will
premiere Monday night, January 20th at 8pm. The SPEED CHANNEL web site
says: “Same-day reports continue Friday, January 3rd through Sunday,
January 19th at 7:30pm (except January 17th at 11pm and January 18th
at 9pm). Repeats every morning at 8am. A one-hour recap of the entire
rally premieres Monday, January 20th at 8pm.”. So, you see, they have
the entire race and commentaries on film. Perhaps you can contact them
and see about buying a copy of their broadcast. In the meantime get on
the phone with your cable operator TONIGHT (or as soon as possible)
and ask about having this channel added to your lineup. It will be
worth the extra $5 to $10 per month (for just one month, and then you
can cancel it) because then you can record the broadcast when it airs
on Jan 20th. This may be an even cheaper way of getting a copy of the
coverage. Otherwise buying a copy of SPEEDTV’s broadcast directly from
them after the fact may be a bit more expensive. But after all,
there's no coverage like live coverage - especially when you can catch
it on tape to watch at your leisure over and over again.
