A year ago we created a Web site for rodney m. john, mediator. The
domain name is ontariomediation.ca.

I cannot google either the personal name or the company, yet I thought
it would routinely be picked up. What is wrong?

Hello connie1702,

First, I want to direct you to this URL:
://www.google.ca/addurl.html and ://www.google.com/addurl.html

You will want to submit your website URL as:
http://www.ontariomediation.ca and perhaps provide some comments about
the website.

You can read up on that website all the public information that Google
has available for getting your website listed.

I was unable to find your website in "the Google Dance" at
http://google-dance.miniunternehmen.de/ which suggests that you need
to submit your website as it has not yet been automatically found by
the Google bot.

I did a spider of the page with
http://www.searchengineworld.com/cgi-bin/sim_spider.cgi and it appears
to me that after submitting the URL your website will appear in the
Google listing. There do not seem to be any outstanding problems that
will prevent your website from being listed.

The only way it would be automatically picked up (without you having
to submit it) is if there was a website already on Google that linked
to your website. Please not that after submitting the URL it can take
weeks before you will have a reliable listing on Google.

You can also increase your chances of being listed on Google by
submitting your website to the "Open Directory Project"
http://dmoz.org/ under the appropriate category.

The above information should be appropriate for you unless you have
tried to list the website often without success. If you need any
clarifications regarding this answer, please let me know and I will do
my best to further assist you as best as I can.

On the Open Directory, I searched for a long time and could not find
an apropriate category for a non-legal mediation service, based in the
greater Toronto area. I did submit a listing to the region: canada:
ontario category, but think it will be dismissed as not appropriate.

What is the correct category. Our site lists research papers as well
as offers services.

Thanks for the response. have registered with Google.

Hello connie1702,

I only gave you the dmoz.org information to increase your chances of
being listed on Google. This really was not information requested in
your original question.

I would say that the following category should be the one you submit
your website too. I realize that this is under Law, but the category
seems valid for your case because there are several other websites
listed such as yours.
http://dmoz.org/Society/Law/Services/Dispute_Resolution/

Perhaps the following would also work:
http://dmoz.org/Society/Issues/Children,_Youth_and_Family/Service_Organizations/
http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Divorce/Children%27s_Issues/

A listing on dmoz.org and google.com are two completely different
things. Google sometimes shows results from dmoz.org and websites that
are listed on dmoz.org are very likely to be spidered the next time
the Google bot travels through the internet. Having your website
listed on dmoz.org requires that editors to approve your website and
list it, something that is completely up to them.

Submitting your website as mentioned in my answer to google should
result in your website appearing on Google as long is it is not
offline when the Google bot visits it to rank it.

All the best,

tisme-ga

In my particular question, the site (family mediation and family
violence) was not in an evident category on Open Directory. Help could
be given to find the appropriate category if the nature of the site
seems unusual. I have sent a supplementary question.
