Hi ben,

Thank you for the opportunity to answer such an interesting and
*enlightening* question.

The following paragraphs will verify that Vianne is actually a place
located in France and tell us a ltttle about the history of Vianne
glass -

"Located on the edges of Baïse, halfway between Bordeaux and Toulouse,
Vianne, fortified village of XIIIth century, is the cradle of an old
art still perpetuated today: The Art of Glass. The glass factory of
Vianne was created in 1928, the area supporting its establishment by
the presence of significant sources of energy and raw materials
necessary to the composition of glass."

- Its evolution -

"Between its setting up and the glass factory nowadays, there are
approximately 70 years of history. Vianne has been blowing glass for
70 years. The birth of Vianne glass factory is due to odd
circumstances. In 1928, the Laubenheimer Brewery in Nérac, anxious to
sell beer in its own bottles, decides to launch out into the
manufacture of bottles made of glass. In spite
of the massive arrival of Yugoslav blowers specialized in this type of
items, the production quickly proved not to be very profitable: the
initiative did not stand up..."

"In 1930, the glass factory of Vianne was taken over by two
industrialists who decided to diversify the production. They
implemented a recruitment system so young Master glass-blowers of
Bohemia could leave Czechoslovakia to transmit their working method to
Vianne. After some tests in the field of the giftware, on the
gobeletery, and on tableware, the company decided to devote to the
production of oil lamps..."

"The company is now devoting to glass components for lighting in
general. Vianne consequently endeavours to maintain the tradition of
the good taste and French quality. The business is a success and
develops very quickly, initially as a limited liability company, then
in 1978, as a Limited company."
