Can you help us establishing contact with NetMeeting?

The situation is as follows:
A and B are able to call C and get a connection. C can not call A or B
and get a connection. Neither A nor B can call each other and get a
connection. In other words, C can not place calls but can receive
them. A and B can place calls but not receive them. It seems that the
IPs of A and B are not correct or the security systems are prohibiting
the calls to reach them. Both A and B have LAN systems at their homes
and when searching for the IP addresses in NetMeeting-Help-About or
using www/whatismyIP.com, they get completly different results without
any of them working. Your advice is welcome.

Hi solrac13,

What you describe is a common problem faced by users of NetMeeting
which has to do with network address translation (NAT) or firewall
security. NetMeeting, which is an implementation of the H.323
protocol, does not work well with NAT'ed addresses due to the way the
call connection protocol works. (Basically the computers will send
each other their IP addresses when establishing a call, and these IP
addresses may not be correct if there's a firewall in between, or if
network address translation is being used). Jeremymiles-ga's post
below is one possible solution; effectively by turning on port
forwarding on the local router, you can eliminate the problem posed by
NAT. Then, opening UDP and TCP ports on the firewall can make sure
the audio & video streams can get through properly.

Hope this helps,
Duncan2-ga

It sounds to me that they are using a router. You need to open the
appropriate ports to allow the information to pass.

Have a look at this question (and answer).
