In the 1950's there was a humorous song based on the music called
"Dance of the Hours" from Ponchielli's LaGioconda. How can I find out
the words and the performer? The song began, "Hello Mudder, Hello
Fadder, ....Camp Granada.... raining.... poison ivy".

Hello bubbles61

The song "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" was written and performed by
Allan Sherman.

You can find the lyrics with guitar chords at
http://www.theguitarguy.com/hellomud.htm

Allan Sherman's real name was Allan Copelon. He was born in 1924 in
Chicago. The song "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" came out on his album
"My Son, the Nut" in 1963 and was a huge hit. He died in 1973.

You can read a short biography on the web site of a theatre show which
celebrates the songs of Allan Sherman. The show is called, guess
what?! "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" "Conceived and written by Rob
Krausz and Douglas Bernstein, HELLO MUDDAH… is a celebration of songs
from the prince of parody set around the story of Barry Bockman and
his lifelong sweetheart Sarah Jackman. Muddahs, Fadduhs, Sistuhs,
Brudduhs, Bubbahs and Zaiduh's will delight in the couple's journey
from birth to summer camp, marriage, suburbia, parenthood and
retirement in sunny Florida, along with their zany parents, campers,
aunts, uncles, teachers and friends." The show is currently playing in
Toronto. You can even obtain a file of "Hello Muddah" sung by Sherman
from the site. The show's producers would have to clear copyright and
performance rights issues in order to feature the song in the show.
Therefore, I am sure that they are also acting legally in offering the
file.

The web site is at http://www.hellomuddah.com/canada/

There is also a web site entirely devoted to Sherman at
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/allansherman/

Search strategy 1. "Camp Granada" 2. "Hello Muddah" 3. "Allan
Sherman"

There's also a version by the immortal Spike Jones, called "Dance of the Hours."

Thanks so much for your wonderful response to my question about Camp
Granada. I took the lyrics back with me to aqua aerobics next day and
we all sang it together. It was great.
