Hello Samelliot!
My edition of the Lord of the Rings, the boxed set, bears a symbol on
the spine of each book.
Here is my set (or rather, a picture of a set identical to mine):

The symbol on the spine is the one tisme-ga notes above, but is white,
on a black background. This same symbol appears on the cover of Tom
Shippey's book, J.R.R. Tolkien: Author of the Century:

The symbol is the good Professor's monogram, designed by Himself. You
can see a clear picture of it on a gorgeous leatherbound omnibus
edition here:
"The Lord of the Rings - deluxe edition. HarC, 2002. One volume
hardback edition, bound in black leather in a black leather slipcase.
Tolkien's monogram printed in gold on the cover of both the book and
the slipcase. Limited to 1000 copies worldwide. New. 195 euro"

The monogram consists of the initials of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien -
The J and T form the main center line of the monogram, with each R
turned out in mirror image, also aligned on the common axis.

Professor himself, you might be interested in the Tolkien Society:
