a few years ago there was an international puzzle contest that offered
their quizzes/puzzles online to be answered and submitted. This was
all based on an honor system. I don't know the exact name of this,
but want to know if it's still out there.

Hi birkett,
Do you remember what sort of puzzles were asked? Was it similar to IQ
tests, word puzzles or maybe trivia? Any details you can recall will
help in the search. Thanks.

Another thing - what prizes were offered for the winner(s)? There are
many online competitions, so the more you can tell us, the better the
chance will be for this specific contest to be found.

Good morning! For what I'm told, they were IQ related questions, not
really trivia. I'm asking someone about the prize inquiry, so I'll
get back to you on that. Thank you so much!

Possibly, you are referring to the "World's Smartest Person"
Competition, organized by the 'International High IQ Society', which
ran until December 31, 2002 (..?).

The 'International High IQ Society' web site offers membership to
persons who score within the top 5% of the general population of their
online admission test. If one scores high enough they will be invited
to join the society

Hello again,
I believe the prize was just a trip to the International contest. I
guess competitors took this test online, submitted for scores, and the
highest went to the International Prize contest. I hope this helps.
I appreciate it!

This might help:

The admissions test to gain membership into the International High IQ
society, you must pass 1 of the 5 timed tests administered online.
Using another person for help is not allowed. Results are given
immediately.

One of the five tests, "Test for Exceptional Intelligence" is also
known as the "World's Smartest Person". The winner, Andrew Nierman, a
Ph.D. student is computer science at the University of Michigan. He
answered 22 out of 25 questions correctly.

Also, "Test for Exceptional Intelligence" or "World's Smartest Person"
can be downloaded and printed and, thus, "worked out". All answers
must show proof and be snail-mailed for grading.

Some questions on these appear puzzle-like or in riddle-form. They all
measure fluidity of intelligence; hence using whatever resource,
except another person, is allowed.
