I am investigating the micro-economic aspects of for-profit
foresting activity, with the ultimate goal of putting together
a basic business model (investment requirements, risks, and
profit potential) and coming up with a basic "ROI" (Return On
Investment) number for the business of "growing trees to sell
wood".
I am particularly interested in Pine and Eucalyptus, or similar
trees (similar from a business perspective, not scientific!).
I am seeking as much information as ten bucks can buy on the
following items. If an item was hard to find, please indicate
"hard to find", how you searched, and suggestions for followup
(e.g. if an item is "one phone call away" let me know).
- Success stories - magazine articles, etc on the subject,
in other words "the big picture."
- Info on the wood industry, links to buyers, market prices.
- Suppliers of seeds, seedlings, machine rental, fertilizer,
pest control, etc etc. Preferrably a "one-stop" supplier
with a well-organized site/catalog.
- Availability of incentives such as loans, tax breaks, etc.
- Value of bare land in parts of USA where this activity is viable.
- Value of land with 5-year and 10-year forests on it.
- Cost of labor - Links to contractors for planting, maintenance.
- Industry Associations, annual industry meetings, etc. |
