I would also ask you what software application(s) created the attachments you are attaching. Often, the filename extension of the attachment will answer this question. For example, the filename extension .DOC usually means the attachment was created with Microsoft Word. So if you don't know the originating application(s), provide the filename extension(s). |

Hi Springy, Your are using XP or ME. You have created the attachments (spreadsheet, etc) in MS Excel or MS Word. Assume that the MS Excel version you have is XP. The attachment will open only with Excel XP or higher. If the receipient who is not able to open the attachement has a lower version(example 7.0) of excel he/she may not be able to open the attachment you sent eventhough they have Excel. You can try the following so that the receipient can open the spreadsheet. Open the spreadsheet and use save as and select "Save as type:" to Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook (*.xls). Now send this file and see. Please feel free to write back on this. Regards rmani13. |

rmani13's comment may not be the actual issue. I've been searching for an answer to this problem for weeks. I had a case where a colleague created a Word doc on XP and emailed it to me. I was unable to open it with Word 2000. He went to a computer running 2000 and emailed me the EXACT SAME DOCUMENT. It opened fine. I've seen lots of people on the net lately asking this same question and getting no answers... Something is not right in Outlook XP's attachment system, I suspect. - Hammer |
