example, went to spread sheet, typed in a letter, put in a clip art
picture, & emailed it to someone with windows ME, he couldn't open it.
I have tryed the same with other people & gotten the same results. I
tryed sending it to someone with xp & they could open it with no
problems. most of my friends have win.98 or lower, I can open there
attachments & read there email but they can read only straight email
from me.

Hello:
When you say he/she can't open the attachments of your mails, what
do you mean? Windows ask them to select a program to open the
attachments? Their mail client shows an error? Please, provide the
following information:
-Your mail client (or the app you are using to send mail)
-The mail client of the friends you sent e-mail
-What kind of documents are you sending (file extension)
-Do they have installed the required applications to view your
documents?

Regards.

I would also ask you what software application(s) created the
attachments you are attaching. Often, the filename extension of the
attachment will answer this question. For example, the filename
extension .DOC usually means the attachment was created with Microsoft
Word. So if you don't know the originating application(s), provide the
filename extension(s).

Hi Springy,

Your are using XP or ME. You have created the attachments
(spreadsheet, etc) in MS Excel or MS Word. Assume that the MS Excel
version you have is XP. The attachment will open only with Excel XP
or higher. If the receipient who is not able to open the attachement
has a lower version(example 7.0) of excel he/she may not be able to
open the attachment you sent eventhough they have Excel. You can try
the following so that the receipient can open the spreadsheet. Open
the spreadsheet and use save as and select "Save as type:" to
Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook (*.xls). Now send this file and see.

Please feel free to write back on this.

Regards
rmani13.

rmani13's comment may not be the actual issue. I've been searching for
an answer to this problem for weeks. I had a case where a colleague
created a Word doc on XP and emailed it to me. I was unable to open it
with Word 2000. He went to a computer running 2000 and emailed me the
EXACT SAME DOCUMENT. It opened fine.

I've seen lots of people on the net lately asking this same question
and getting no answers... Something is not right in Outlook XP's
attachment system, I suspect.
