Thanks for your question. There are several locations on the web that
will be provide you with what you are looking for. I will tell you
however, there is no single source that will be able to identify every
song by lyric. You can ask any Google Researcher who has researched
song lyrics or titles that they can be very frustrating at times and
there are several places you can use that are helpful. When I do
research for song lyrics, I typically start by placing a line that I
know is in the song into Google, within quotes, and do a search on it.
For example, let's go with the Billy Vera song "At This Moment".
Now, I always thought the title of the song was "What did you think?"
I know the first words of the song are "What did you think I would do
at this momement?" I would type those into Google, with the quotes
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%22What+did+you+think+I+would+do+at+this+moment%22&btnG=Google+Search
As you can see, there are several results that come up that show the
lyrics.
If that doesn't work, I try a line that I know from the song without
the quotes and check both Google as well as newsgroups,
http://groups.google.com/. Newsgroups are a great resource when
searching for lyrics or specific musical information because, chances
are, there are fans out there, on the web, for almost every music
sound there is. Using the same search as above, but rather on the
newsgroups,
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%22What+did+you+think+I+would+do+at+this+moment%22&sa=N&tab=wg
There were 81 hits, a huge majority with the full lyrics.
There are some website that will allow you to search for song
information based upon lyric info as well. As you probably noticed,
there are some great sites out there that help if you know the artist
or the song. Unfortunately, not so many exist where you only know the
lyrics. However, there is one that I would recommend. LyricServer, at
http://lyricserver.com/, allows you to enter snippets of lyrics and it
searches multiple databases for your song. It is a member of the
SongCrawler network which is an MP3 search engine, so you may be able
to kill two birds with one stone in that you find the information AND
an MP3 of the song.
If all the above fail, head over to http://www.top100lyrics.com/ and
there are, literally, 100's of different lyric search engines to
choose from to search for your song.
Thanks again for your question and if you need any additional
informaiton, please let me know.
Regards,
-THV
