Hi Will,
BMG's "Get 12 CDs for the price of 1" offer works thusly:
You sign up and choose 2 free CDs, and pay only the shipping and
handling. Shipping and handling is $2.79 per CD, and local sales tax
is also added. Then you buy one CD, priced at $15 or more, plus
shipping and handling, and are then entitled to choose 9 more CDs, and
pay only shipping and handling, and local sales tax.
Shipping and Handling

What they don't mention in the flashy ads is that the shipping and
handling charges add up quickly, rendering the CDs not so much "free"
as "cheap". You're in luck, though - thanks to your age, you've got
an extra option to get out.
If your "introductory order" hasn't arrived yet, or you've had it less
than 10 days, you're covered under the "10 day risk free trial"
clause:
"10-Day, Risk-Free Trial.
When you receive your introductory selections, preview them for 10
days and examine the terms of membership. If you're not completely
satisfied for any reason, return the selections at our expense with no
further obligation. It's that simple."
How Membership Works

Just re-package them, write "cancel" on the invoice, and send the
whole thing back to BMG.
If you've had it for longer than 10 days, you can still cancel without
further obligation...but you're going to have to get your Mom
involved.
I spoke with Jeremy and Krista in BMG's Customer Service Department
( 317-692-9200 ). If your Mom calls BMG with your account number and
tells them that you did not have her permission to create the account,
they will not only automatically cancel the account, they will send
you a postage paid shipping label to return the CDs at their expense.
Send it all back, and you're in the clear - BMG will not knowingly
open an account for a minor without parental consent.
If you should for some reason choose to keep the CDs and not pay the
debt, BMG will send you a reminder notice. If you do not respond,
they will bill you for the entire amount due under the terms of your
membership agreement. Once you pay that, you're permitted to choose
the remaining CDs left on your contract. If you refuse to pay, they
will send you off to collections, and you'll begin to receive dunning
letters and phone calls demanding payment.
(I don't recommend this course, as it would likely infuriate your Mom
*and* damage your future ability to get credit. Not to mention, if
they really wanted to be nasty about it, they could prosecute you for
mail fraud, regardless of age. Yipes!)
Good luck!
