There used to be a device that you could attach to an HP LaserJet. You hooked a telephone line into this stand-alone small black box and then you could receive incoming faxes on the printer - so your printer became an inbound fax machine. I want to buy something that does this. Where? - Todd |

Hello. The product that you remember is HP's PrinterPal. "The HP PrinterPal is a small, pocket-sized fax accessory that plugs into the parallel port of HP LaserJet or HP Deskjet printers. Once connected to a power source and a regular telephone line, it will receive and print faxes on the printer." http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/get_doc.pl?SNI=prpallj&LC=faxes&Tfile=bpf01315 Apparently, the product is no longer made. Quite a few of them seem to pop up on eBay, though. Two were PrinterPals sold on eBay in just the last week: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2300977280&category=25315 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2300226530&category=1246 If you don't want to wait until the next eBay auction for PrinterPal, Syntran's FaxPrint device does the same thing. "SYNTRAN's FaxPrint allows you to print faxes directly to your printer without the use of your computer. Using your computer as a fax receiver can cause unnecessary wear. So just connect your phone line and printer to the FaxPrint and you're ready to receive faxes immediately." Source: granitedata.com: http://www.granitedata.com/syntran/faxprint.html Two reviews of the product are these granitedata web pages: http://www.granitedata.com/syntran/news.html#news10 http://www.granitedata.com/syntran/news.html#news17 An online retailer called sohomax.com is listing FaxPrint for 74.95: http://www.sohomax.com/faxprint.html search strategy: printer "into a fax machine" I hope this helps. |
