Question ID: 146603
I work for a small advertising agency (about 25 employees in 4 offices
worldwide) where I wear a few different hats, making it difficult for
me to figure out what my job title is. I basically started out as an
Admin, but my position and responsibilites have grown since:

1) I designed and maintain the website.

2) I'm sort of the "unofficial" IT guy, just by virtue of being the
most technically knowledgable here (which isn't saying much). I'm
called upon for all things PC- troubleshooting, setup, upgrades, etc.
Sort of like an IT helpdesk.

3) I assist in marketing efforts by designing little brochures in
Illustrator, PageMaker, etc., and also with email-based newsletters.

What is my job title?? I know I'm not Admin anymore, but I don't know
what to call myself. I don't want it to be inflated, but I'd like it
respectful. If there is no 1 title for me, please give me a few that
apply. Thanks.

Dear esarkissian-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

By all accounts, you are an ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION SPECIALIST.

An information specialist is responsible for the cohesion of the team.
He acts as a central contact point for company information, both
inside the company and out. He provides and distributes information
about the company’s activities and also provides information to those
within the company regarding technical matters, consultation and
day-to-day issues. He develops and distributes promotional Resource
Center materials such as newsletters, brochures, and information
packets. He also Collects, disseminates and manages information and
coordinates, supports and provides technical services to other
personnel or departments within the company.

…among many other duties.

Other titles that may also be applied to this same function may be:

DATA SPECIALIST or TECHNICIAN

TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST

INFORMATION SPECIALIST or TECHNICIAN

RESOURCE SPECIALIST or TECHNICIAN

Alternatively, since you function in a pseudo-admin capacity, it would
also be appropriate for you to add “SENIOR”, “EXECUTIVE” or
“ADMINISTRATIVE” before any of these titles.

for a comparision:

There is much to be said for a job title. In my own experiences in the
field of law enforcement, I once managed a 911/Police Communications
Center that had 16 employees. Morale was very low among these
“dispatchers” (as they were known then) and one of the things I did to
boost their self-image was to have their position officially renamed.
Once they became known as Communications Specialists they began taking
more pride in their work and their overall performance ratings began
to increase dramatically. Obviously this was not the only reason for
the increase but it certainly played a large part in it.

I hope you find that that my research exceeds your expectations. If
you have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. I welcome your rating and your
final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the
near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Best regards;
Tutuzdad-ga

Other titles that would be used if you only wore one of the hats you
mention instead of all 3 could be one of the following:

Webmaster

Computer Repair Technician

Graphic Designer
