We would like to get a list (at least 25) of web sites and services
that offer a browsable/queryable database of corporate biographies for
executives working at S&P 500-size U.S. companies. Please note if the
site/service is free or for a fee, and what the fee is. Cheers!

Thanks for your question.

I know of a couple such sources, and there may be a handful more I am
not familiar with - but, I can assure you, there aren't 25.

Would 5-10 be sufficient?
Are there any other sites you may be interested in to complete the
picture, so to speak?

thanks,
ragingacademic

Thanks for the request for clarification. Yes, 5-10 would be
sufficient if that's all that is available. We'd like to be clear
that we're not looking for a link to Yahoo Finance or a Hoover's-type
site, which are more focused on the companies themselves. We're
looking for a queryable database that would be able to tell us (among
other things) how many top executives went to a particular school, or
make a certain salary, or have a specific graduate degree. Please let
us know if you have any other questions, or if you are unable to find
what we're seeking. Thanks!

Dear bizdow-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

How about one that lists 71,685 records that look like this:
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0526.html#RC

STANDARD & POOR’S REGISTER - BIOGRAPHICAL
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0526.html
Cost for this GIGANTIC database varies depending on usage:
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0526.html#RT

STANDARD & POOR’S – CORPORATE
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0527.html
This is another one that S&P offers, focusing on the business,
management, industry, etc.
Again, price varies according to how you plan to use it.
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0527.html#RT

MARQUIS WHO’S WHO
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0234.html
“The file contains over 790,000 profiles drawn from the entire
19-volume Marquis Who's Who library since 1985, including active,
retired, and deceased listees. Approximately 90% of the file consists
of fielded biographies; approximately 10% consists of free-text
biographies. Volumes included in the file are:
Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals®; Who's Who in
Advertising®; Who's Who in America®; Who's Who in American Education®;
Who's Who in American Law®; Who's Who in American Nursing®; Who's Who
in Entertainment®; Who's Who in Finance and Industry®; Who's Who in
Medicine and Healthcare®; Who's Who in Religion®; Who's Who in Science
and Engineering®; Who's Who in the East®; Who's Who in the Midwest®;
Who's Who in the South and Southwest®; Who's Who in the West®; Who's
Who in the World®; Who's Who of American Women®; Who's Who of Emerging
Leaders in America®; Who's Who Was Who®; Who's Who Was Who in
America®.”
Yet again, price varies depending upon your usage:

Now for the great news! Here are HUNDREDS more databases!

THOMPSON DIALOG
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/

These databases are fee based but if you only get a couple that suit
your needs you could potentially have access to the biographies of a
million people or more. While not all of them deal with personal
biographies, many of them do. I’ve reviewed a few of them for you so
let me recommend a few more for you to consider that feature either
biographical, corporate or financial data:

DISCLOSURE DATABASE

EDGARPLUS – PROSPECTUSES
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0776.html

THOMAS REGISTER ONLINE
http://library.dialog.com/bluesheets/html/bl0535.html

WILSON WEB
http://www.hwwilson.com/
(Contains biographies of 446,000 prominent people, past and present)

If you want to know how much the top executives, management and other
assorted corporate big dogs are making these days check out ECOMP
EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION DATABASE. It features both free and paid
services (but I found the free service pretty sufficient by itself)

ECOMP
http://www.ecomponline.com/

Check this out. Here’s a search I did on MICROSOFT:
http://www.ecomponline.com/freecomp/company.tcl?symbol=MSFT
You can do a search like this on just about any big company and find
out what kind of income these guys are making.

FREEBIES

ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY
http://www.oru.edu/university/library/guides/biographicalInfo.html
(Near the bottom look for BIOGRAPHY LINKS. Lots of them here. You’ll
have to test drive them though to see how useful they really are.)

BIOGRAPHY.COM

DISTINGUISHED WOMEN PAST & PRESENT

BIOGRAPHIE.NET
http://biographie.net/
(Multilingual)

Alternatively, you may be able to search for the names of the fee
based bluesheet databases on the links I have given you and you may
find that some of these have “online” databases that can actually be
searched for free, or used in a limited way for free perhaps. Take THE
THOMAS REGISTER (http://www.thomasregister.com/) for example. I found
it online and it allows limited searches for free. This led me to
believe the some of the others might also:

Again, here’s one I did on THE THOMAS REGISTER in order to find out
the net worth of MICROSOFT:
http://www92.thomasregister.com/ss/.28856553168/TCdcopro.cgi?uuid=THtrguest&sid=28856553168&script_name=TCdcopro.cgi&search_type=company&search_string=microsoft&seq=2&pn=&az=43038249&st=&pdm=

Below you will find that I have carefully defined my search strategy
for you in the event that you need to search for more information. By
following the same type of searches that I did you may be able to
enhance the research I have provided even further. I hope you find
that that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any
questions about my research please post a clarification request prior
to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating and your final
comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near
future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Best regards;
Tutuzdad-ga

Hello Tutuzdad - Thank you for the information to date. One detail
that is still not clear to me is the cost of a search on Thomson
Dialog. Since I have no idea what 'formats', 'types' and 'prints'
are, the pricing information provided is not very useful.

Could you help clarify how much it would cost, for example, to search
the entire DB for records that had a particular graduate degree?
Lets's say 10,000 records met my search, what would the price be to
review those records? Thank you.

Dear bizdow-ga:

On the main site http://support.dialog.com/pricing/ there are links to
the pricing guide found here:

http://support.dialog.com/pricing/

There are a number of diffeent price ranges according to your usage.
You can read these help files or have them assist you directly by
going to the help desk:

I believe what you are interested in is the database feature called
"DialogSelect". You will find access rate information for this here:
http://support.dialog.com/pricing/dialogselect/dsel_prices.pdf

Here is a list of documents/databases you can order if available:
http://support.dialog.com/publications/alphalist/

Alternatively, they will assign someone to do the pertinent search for
you:
http://support.dialog.com/account/forms/aiiprequest/

Or you can obtain information on their web interfaces which provide
the novice with a means of gathering necessary information, such as
this one:
http://www.dialog.com/products/companyprofiles/
(There are others, some of which can be downloaded and used as desktop
applications. Refer to PRODUCTS link at the top of the screen on the
main page)

I hope this helps you find what you are looking for.

Regards;
tutuzdad-ga

Or you can also order an online version (which I believe is emailed to
you) or a hardcopy version which is sent to you via postal mail
