Hello again marmar7-ga,
I did some more searching now that I know you are interested in the
toy company. I found some additional information to verify some of the
information you gathered.
I found a Web site that shows that Xonex bought Leadworks, a maker of
pens, some time before 2001.

Leadworks

aka Xonex

I also checked the Wayback archives and found that Xonex had an
extensive Web site of over 100 pages in the years 2000-2001.

Jordan Levy's Xonex International site again uses style sheets to
maintain a consistent appearance across a large number of pages. The
site displays a large catalog of classic die-cast models to home decor
all made by Xonex. Consistency of font and so on is achieved with a
style sheet.

Xonex International, Inc. celebrates "Play, Learn, and Create".
In an eastern suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, there is a sense of style and
energy which come together. From classic die-cast models to trendy
home decor, there exists a diverse range of development. Creative art
and activity sets also meld with these lifestyle products by good
taste and high design.
Inspiration for uniqueness abounds, emphasis is on trend and fashion.
The staff is warm, welcoming, and offers complete merchandising
programs for re-sellers as well as efficient direction to end-users.
Throughout it's 10 years of existence, Xonex has nurtured an in-house
group of designers which now sets industry standards. The company has
pioneered organized art sets, broke ground in retro model
reproduction, and is responsible for bringing some best selling
accessories to market.
Distribution is achieved by a dozen in-house sales specialists and
through a network of nearly 200 independent reps. Product is offered
to the trade in more than 15 merchandise marts, 24 exhibitions (gift,
toy and stationery), leading trade publications, color brochures, and
through the WWW.
Most of Xonex production is contracted for on an exclusive private
label basis. Leading retailers feature our product in all categories,
under their own brand. Disney, Crate & Barrel, Learningsmith, Warner
Brothers, Discover Channel, Natural Wonders, Bloomingdales and FAO
Schwarz are a few celebrated examples.
The Xonex retail account base is made up of 10,000 gift, stationery,
department stores, and mail-order catalog firms. The product is also
featured on home shopping networks, through airline brochures, and a
Harley-Davidson dealer network. Distributors are also in place for
specialty and international markets including Canada, England, France
and Germany.
Our own line of merchandise reflects the Xonex trademark and may be
divided among two marketing divisions i.e.: art, stationery, home
decor, plus; die-cast models, collectible, and licensed product.
Internationally acclaimed brands such as Harley-Davidson, Campbells
Soup, Schwinn, and Chrysler are all licensed under contract. Their
famous icons, images, and characters are incorporated within most
Xonex product categories and are enhanced by our creative application.
Xonex has witnessed consistent growth since inception. This being the
company's 10 year anniversary, we are eager to reflect upon the
recognition by Weatherhead School of Management's repeat awards, for
being one of Ohio's top 100 growth corporations.
This milestone may certainly be attributed to the support and loyalty
from Xonex customers and its overseas trading partners, to all of whom
we shall remain grateful.

Since someone answers the phone, the company seems to be still in
operation. Could it be possible that whoever made the call from your
location is interested in Xonex pens or collectibles?
Good luck on solving your mystery call.
