Supposing I decide to take off ...

Should I go in my pyjamas? Or a space suit?

Or what? Or does it depend on the direction of travel?

(It's the depth of winter here in the UK)

Hi Probonopublico,

I don't know if you are serious about attempting this kind of travel.
It would seem a lot of those commenting aren't quite sure either. But
on the chance you are serious, and because I've always had a great
curiosity about this sort of mystical experience (though without
having tried it myself), I'll give a shot at giving you a serious
answer.

There is actually quite a bit of informatoin about this subject
available both online and off. One of my favorite authors, Richard
Bach, often touches on it. You might read his book, "A Bridge Across
Forever," or better yet, its sequel, "One," in which he describes
nighttime astral journeys he and his then-wife Leslie take together in
the Astral Plane. In addition, there are a number of other books
available. Check out these links:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0806504633/ref%3Dsr%5F1%5F10%5F1/103-6668222-4508630
http://www.weiserantiquarian.com/cgi-bin/wab455/scan/mp=keywords/se=Astral%20Projection/st=sql/ml=1000/sp=quickcat/tf=author/tf=title/cs=no/em=yes
http://www.llewellyn.com/bookstore/search.php?sec=Astral+Projection
http://www.dropbears.com/b/broughsbooks/culture/astral_travel.htm

However, your question is particularly about what to wear. To that,
there are fewer sources for information, though still quite a few.

Check out this website:
http://astralvoyage.com/basics/FAQ_updated.html where the author
answers the question this way:

"Can you see yourself when you astral travel? How do you look? What
clothes are you wearing (same as in the physical plane?) etc?"

"I initially said that you could see yourself lying there on the bed,
but I think that what we are really seeing is the etheric body. I
don't think we can see the physical body because it's not of the same
vibration (like I keep saying over and over... we see the astral
counterpart of what is in the physical). I've gotten several e-mails
where they can't see ANY body on the bed. That's because they are in
both the astral and etheric vehicle so there's nothing to see on the
bed! .... I've never heard of anyone doing this before. As far as what
you are wearing, I don't pay attention, but I don't feel naked."

Interestingly, the author of this same website (same url as above)
says that astral travel can be accomplished in time also, so that you
can see not only what you are wearing at the moment, but also what you
will be wearing two days in the future:

“ ... can you tell me what dress I am wearing now or what dress I will
be wearing two days later?”

“Yes, you can see what you are wearing, and what you’ll be wearing two
days in the future ....”

Here’s another website that gives more specific instructions on what
to wear for your journey: “To perform astral projection approriately
you will need to wear loose fitting natural fibre clothes and no
jewellery.” See http://www.geocities.com/athens/troy/7922/AP.html for
more information.

On the other hand, the following sites recommend the use or wearing of
specific stones to enhance astral travel:
Fluorite: http://www.snazzdragon.co.uk/crystalsfj.html
Pietersite: http://www.gemstones.150m.com/raregems.html
Opal: http://poppy121.tripod.com/shamaness/id8.html
Meterorite: http://www.geocities.com/arryssia/StoneCaverns/Pmetals/Pmetals.html

Many other sites give instructions on how to perform astral
projection, with specific instructions on what to wear. You might try
checking out these:
“I have read in one book where I should shower/bathe first and wear
cotton clothing ....”
http://pub104.ezboard.com/fmajisfrm33.showMessage?topicID=93.topic

“Wear loose, comfortable clothing and bare feet (or loose socks)
depending on the local temperature. Tight clothing and shoes will
cause discomfort with deep relaxation, and will also restrict the flow
of blood and energy.”
http://www.spiritual.com.au/articles/astral/astralp7_rbruce.htm

“Wear comfortable clothing that won't be a distraction.”
http://www.gate.net/~weaver/astral.html

This site suggests that whatever the astral body is seen wearing is
actually in the thoughts of the observer: “Why should the astral body
wear earthly suits, pyjamas and dresses, as so many have reported? The
answer, he explained, is that 'thought creates in the astral, and one
appears to others as he is in mind. In fact, the whole astral world is
governed by thought.'”
http://www.psywww.com/asc/obe/whois_mu.html

The idea is corroborated by others who claim the astral body is
ethereal rather than physical, thus implying that what one wears is
irrelevant to what is going on:

For example, “Some research on the perception of body in projection
has dispelled some popular notions on the subject. Results showed that
in 80% of the cases, no other body was reported by the participants.
Indeed, those that reported feeling any sort of connection to their
physical body during projection numbered less than a third of the
total. People that have seen themselves during astral projection have
reported seeing themselves as they are physically or as a body or
point of light.”
http://www.hostileinvader.com/AstralProjection.html

This author agrees:
“Astral Body is the spiritual, ether-like counterpart of the physical
body. The body is composed of astral material and is an exact energy
duplication of the physical form that it encompasses.”
http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/a/astral_body.html

Here is a little longer discussion of the subject (from:
http://www.robertpeterson.org/chap22.html ):

“During an OBE, are we naked or do we wear clothes? The answer is,
sometimes we are naked, but most of the time we do wear astral
clothes. The few people who report being naked during an OBE usually
"feel naked" without their body. “

“Others report that they were wearing white robes, unlike any clothes
they own in physical life. These people usually believe that they are
dead or they are temporarily spirits, and what else do spirits wear?

“There are also many people who find themselves in astral clothes
identical to the clothes they were wearing at the time of the OBE.
Often these people don’t realize at first that they are out of their
bodies. One moment they lie down for a nap, and the next moment they
find themselves standing up and feeling light on their feet. And of
course they believe they are wearing the same clothes.

“ More common, however, is the case where the subject doesn’t remember
whether he or she was wearing clothes. They just don’t seem to
notice....

“The point is, while we are out of our body, our beliefs do influence
our experience. Our thoughts also influence our experience, but they
are subject to our beliefs.”

In general, from reading all the above reports, advice and
instructions on the subject, it would seem tha if you’re interested in
attempting astral travel, you should probably just wear something
comfortable that you wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen in. Since
it’s winter where you are, comfort would probably include warmth, so
definitely take that into consideration.

Hi Brian!

Since the Astral Plane is supposed to be a place of comfort and bliss,
I'd personally wear my favorite flannel pajamas and big fluffy
slippers.

It's the closest to Heaven you can get on Earth, in any case.

What would your mother have said? Wrap up warm, and wear decent underwear.

"There are 7 astral planes with 7 levels to each."
http://www.heartsongctr.com/school/enlight.html

I think this confuses the question, as it could be that different
levels require a different dress code. Dinner jacket for one? and
Bermuda shorts with hawaiian shirt for another?

Or of course cloak and dagger, if you are on the same Astral Plane as
Kurt Jahnke!
"What methods are the Germans using to discover–with sinister
effect–the secret routes of the Atlantic convoys? His answer is
bizarre and fantastic. The enemy are in touch with supernatural
powers which can be overcome only by those who have the knowledge and
courage to join battle with them on the Astral Plane."

Don't forget a zapper to deal with unwanted thought forms
and a fog lamp - it can get misty out there

My thanks to all.

But, so far, I have only received theoretical stuff ...

Surely, someone out there has some practical experience?

I used to work as a stewardess on the Astral Plane, before the Astral
Corporation went bankrupt and its CEO's lifeforce was splintered into
colored rays of light (he went to prism.)

Regarding the matter of what to wear, I suggest a nice jewel for your
navel. ;-)
