Hello kellyclose:
I was able to find several sites that back up your $4.0 - $4.5 billion
market size estimate. Given what I've found, however, I think the
number is definitely closer to the $4.5 billion mark.
What I found:
SpectRx, Inc. Proceeding with Development of Continuous Glucose
Monitor

Quote: "The estimated worldwide market for glucose testing is $4.5
billion with an annual growth rate of 12 to 18 percent."

Applications and the Evolution of Diagnostic Technologies
URL: http://www.wmrc.com/businessbriefing/pdf/health3_2002/Publication/lewandrowski.pdf
Quote: "By one estimate, blood glucose testing is currently a US$3.54
billion market in the US, Europe and Japan."
Note: If you add the rest of the world, that brings it in line with
$4.5 billion.

URL: http://www.sontra.com/productapplications/glucosemonitoring/
Quote: "As a result, the home blood glucose testing market is a large
rapidly growing market. Worldwide sales are currently $4 billion and
the market is expected to expand to almost $8 billion by 2007."
Note: This doesn't include the "non-home" market. Take special note of
the estimated increases in this market.
Advances in Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Glucose Monitoring
Technologies
URL: http://www.dresources.com/dr/Reports.nsf/BrowseAbstracts/974A71071A95BC3486256B95004BA065?OpenDocument
Quote: "Blood glucose testing is the largest segment of the $20
billion in vitro diagnostics market in the United States, Germany,
France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, and Japanworth $3.5-4.0
billion."
Note: Again, add the market for the rest of the world.
There are many other pages listing similar figures as well. I think
you can count on around $4.5 billion.
I hope that this information has been of help to you.

Hi kellyclose:
Odd. The link worked yesterday...but it isn't working for me today
either.
However, you can have a look at the cached (saved) version that Google
has at:

If you want this for future viewing, you might want to save the file
to your hard drive.
