What are lyrics to "Coumba" by Orchestra Baobab? Its in French. I understand most of the song, but not all. Could you give me the complete lyrics (in French) and an English translation? |

My favourite album of all time. I'll try and remember to attempt a transcription next time I listen to it, but my French isn't amazing. In the meantime, the following paragaph may be of incidental interest. It's from fROOTS magazine (no 221; Nov 2001; p23) in an article called "Baobab Bounce Back" by Lucy Duran: "Have you noticed that my songs are always very nostalgic?" [Rudy Gomis] asked me later on. "My music is sad. Like "Coumba". That was the name of my first wife. Te day I went to court for our divorce, I composed this song for her." Hence all the "Coumba, s'est toi qui m'a quitte", I guess. More to follow if my linguistic skill's up to me. [Again incidentally, Lucy Duran is a bit of a Baobab whizz: see http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/interviews/story.jsp?story=330962 & http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/world/awards2003/review_baobab.shtml online, for example.] |
