Seeking domestic or international manufacturer of spiral wire
corkscrews (corkpullers for wine, etc). Not the auger type, and just
the metal portion. Especially interested to find companies that can
produce the opposite end to our specifications (the part that goes
into the handle). Ideally, the end would be of a larger diameter than
the wire spiral, and could be threaded per our spec. Also seeking
companies with smaller minimum orders (500-1500 pieces).

Hi culturejam,

I have located a couple of excellent potential sources for your
corkscrew wires, and have emails out to both to verify that they can
accommodate your requirements. This may take overnight due to time
zone differences.

Here's a photo I've uploaded so you can have a preview look at some of
what I've found: http://www.villagephotos.com/viewpubimage.asp?id_=1433315&selected=146048

In the meantime, would you tell me a little more about exactly what
you mean by "auger type"? I don't want to post an answer for you
that's not completely responsive.

Thanks,

ericynot-ga

ericynot-
thanks for the photo. By auger type, I am referring to #130 in the
photo. These are formed by forging or machining a large diameter rod.
The wire spiral is formed by wrapping a smaller diameter wire around a
mandrel. The latter is preferred by wine enthusiasts as it does not
displace much cork material.

In your photo, #163 would work if threaded. #102 is almost exactly
what we are seeking. Ideally it would have a longer shank, but that is
something we can take up with the manufacturer. thanks for your work
so far, and I look fwd to your answer.

culturejam

The Aardvark corkscrews are of the auger type, which we do not want.
Also, are the other companies able to provide a custom end similar to
the photograph's #102? It is not clear from the websites if they do.
If this is beyond the scope of the original question, i can repost (or
tip handsomely:) Thanks.

culturejam

Hi-

Please look at http://www.zanatta.net/spiral_corkscrew.htm and tell me
if item
100.20 or 100.40 isn't close to what you are seeking.

I've e-mailed Rainer Usbeck and Morel-Bellein to verify that they
supply threaded shafts. I'd not anticipate a reply before Monday.

Norbert Holland-Cunz manufactures #102.

I can telephone corkscrew.com on Monday, if you wish, but they seem
the least likely source.

And we've eliminated Aardvark ( I apologize, it should not have been
included to begin with.)
