What do I need to download or install in Windows to force MIE and
Explorer to display Korean characters? I've managed to activate
support for Korean characters in some of my Windows programs but can't
seem to get anything but gibberish in Microsoft Internet Explorer and
Windows Explorer. Emails addresses and file names in Korean fail to
appear as anything but jumbled letters (mostly a series of question
marks) whereas I'm able to type Korean characters using IME and text
containing Hangul sent to me by others in MSN Messenger, for example,
appears fine.

When you go to a page with Korean language, does the Internet Explorer
Install on Demand window pop up telling you that you need to install
Korean Text Display Support? The file is about 2.2MB. If not, you
need to activate Install on Demand. What version of IE are you
running?

I have previously installed Korean Text Display Support so characters
DO appear properly when I visit a page with Korean language. A more
specific example of my problem lies with the trouble I have using
Hotmail: when I receive emails from Korean friends, their email
addresses appear as gibberish. The same is true when I try to view
online contacts in MSN Messenger: the names are just jumbled
characters. I am running MIE 6.0.

It might help to further clarify that I AM able to display Korean in
IE menus and dialog boxes and within most web pages. Korean
characters do NOT properly appear within file names and email
addresses. Vexing!

My wife is korean and had this same e-problem with her family in
Korea. Same issues with question marks and garbled text, even though
we downloaded all the IME korean fonts. Aol does not support korean,
so we found that Hotmail from MSN-yahoo does support Korean, is free
and thus we use it for korean text incoming and outgoing, while
keeping our regular account with Aol. Open an account there for free
and your problems will be solved.

One alternative is click on the 'Tools', then 'Windows Update'
program. When it brings you to Microsoft's Windows Update page, click
on Windows Updates, and you'll see a list of all the language modules
available. There's actually more than one Korean language module to
install.
