Kreemo,

Thanks for the question! I'm assuming that you want to get your
message exposed to students in the United States, although a lot of
this information would apply to other countries as well. I'm also
assuming you mean university-level students, although again, most of
this stuff can apply to either.

As I understand it, you want to:

* Rent mailing lists of students
* Advertise online to students
* Do it VERY affordably

Don't even think about advertising on websites that cater to students.
There are a ton of them around in the areas of research tools,

Encyclopedia Britannica
http://www.britannica.com)

homework resources,

Homework Spot
http://www.homeworkspot.com

student chat sites,

Student Center
http://www.studentcenter.org

and class directories.

Classmates
http://www.classmates.com

3 of the above offer advertising.

Unfortunately you've got two problems with any of these types of
sites. First, they are all going to have a rather large minimum
investment for a "campaign". Typically you're going to have to shell
out several thousand up front to get started. Second, there's no
independent way for you to know how many exposures you get. They can
tell you that a million visitors come to the site each month, but this
can be fabricated in several ways. Even if you do get the exposures,
if you're buried with 10 other ads, visitors won't notice you and
you're money is down the tube. Worst of all, most of these sites
charge you a flat fee, not a small amount per exposure. So if you take
their deal, you could wind up with 0 sales and their only response
will be, oh well.

By far your best bet is to use a pay per click search engine. They
will let you sign up for certain key words. So when someone searches
for "homework help", your add will appear on the right. Some will
charge you by the exposure. Others will charge you by the number of
times people click to your site. You can set the amount, based on how
high you want to be on the advertising list. Your best bets are:

Google
://www.google.com

Sprinks
http://www.sprinks.com

Overture
http://www.overture.com

Check these out. One of them will fit the bill. My personal favorite
is Google. They have more traffic, and you can set a budget as low as
$50 a month.

There are lots of places you can rent email lists. In all cases you
will have to give them the copy you want and they will email out the
emails. You will never take physical possession of the lists. Some
options are:

Info USA
http://wwww.infousa.com

Target Email Direct
http://www.temd.com

Etarget Ware
http://www.targeteware.com

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions on this
topic. And thanks again for the question!
