Hello,

I am running Apache web server version 1.3 on Windows XP, and I need
to be able to limit the amount of bandwidth that is used by people
accessing certain files or directories on my website. I would like to
use mod_bandwidth or mod_throttle, but I have been unable to find
these modules ported to Windows Apache 1.3 in binary form. I don't
want to have to compile anything, but if I have the .so file and
instructions for setting up the http.conf file, I can probably manage.
There was a binary for mod_bandwidth that I found but I was unable to
get it working: I kept getting a '126' error indicating that the .so
module wasn't found... probably some .dll file that the module uses
wasn't found when starting Apache.

Anyway, what I would really like is a mod_throttle binary for Windows
+ instructions, *or* a mod_bandwidth module that doesn't have lots of
'issues' with installing it. Alternately, if you can provide me with a
link to freeware or cheap shareware (under $20) which accomplishes the
same thing, that would be fine, too. There are many network bandwidth
"monitors" out there, but most of them just monitor, or they're very
expensive, or very complex. I just want something that's relatively
small, easy to set up, and which actually works.

Thanks,
Darren

hi,
I just wanted to add that I have tried Shunra Nimbus but this will not
work for me because I have multiple network cards installed on my
system, and Nimbus only works if a single card is installed. The
mod_bandwidth or mod_throttle options would be the best solution to my
question.

It seems Gerrit E.G. 'Insh_Allah' Hobbelt has made a port of
mod_bandwidth for Windows, you can see his page at:
http://flashexperiments.insh-allah.com/Apache.html

You can download the DSO-version directly, which should work under XP.

Regarding the 126-error, the following page has some information about
it:
http://flashexperiments.insh-allah.com/ApacheError126.html

(As I now see you already tried 'a binary for mod_bandwidth'. Dunno if
it was this one)

hi,
That was the mod_bandwidth that I already tried. I went through the
instructions on eliminating the 126-error but was not successful.
