I am looking for case studies of how companies have used Outlook (in
an Exchange environment) as a tool for collaboration.

Many (maybe most) companies today have an exchange server and use
Outlook. They use only a small fraction of the features that their
exchange server gives them. Most places I have visited use it for
only sending email and scheduling meetings.

It seems to me that they are not getting the maximum befit that a
powerful collaboration tool like exchange has to offer.

I am looking for example of places where they are using Outlook to its
fullest extent (or close to it anyway). I need examples of specific
things they are doing with exchange and how these things are resulting
in increased productivity, increased effectiveness, or enhanced
internal communications.

I am not interested in how companies use ordinary email or use
Outlook’s shared calendars and automated meeting maker feature.
Anyone can figure out how to use these 2 tools to do simple
collaboration

Most of the examples need to be ordinary exchange setups, but a few
can be ones with additional software addons.

The examples need to be specific. What features, how implemented (if
poss), what are the resulting benefits.

no. that example is an example of a 3rd party tool built around
outlook. I am looking for more simple examples of outlook
collaboration as it typically happens in some of the smarter
corporations today.

Hi sherpaj,

I spent a good deal of time looking around the web for the most
accurate case studies related to deployments of MS Exchange for
corporate collaboration. I found a number of case studies and took
some time to look through each to pull out the ones that I feel are
most relevant to your interests.

Below I've listed the name of the company for each case study, a link
to the case study and a quick "details" paragraph to give you an idea
of what the collaborative aspect of each case study refers to. The
first three or four case studies below I feel may be the most valuable
to you as they are the most detailed, specifically listing technical
features of MS Exchange/Outlook used to enhance collaboration,
implementations and resulting benefits (including TCO references where
possible.) The others may be valuable as well because they list
specific usages of Exchange for collaboration, but not
implementation/TCO detail, etc.

In addition, since you mentioned you were also interested in examples
where Exchange's collaboration features formed the foundation for an
additional software addon, I've included a few links in a second
section - in the same name/link/details format - as these case studies
do mention specific elements of Exchange used to enhance corporate
collaboration.

Finally, I list a link in the "Additional Links" section below to a
link on Microsoft's web site to a number of case studies on Microsoft
Exchange server. Though not all touch specifically on collaboration,
many do and you may choose to take some time to look through these in
case there is any specific information that is of interest to you.

If you would like to do further research on this on your own, you can
simply type the key words of interest, in the order of most importance
to you, into Google. For example, "outlook exchange collaboration case
study", may not yield as many accurate results as "exchange
collaborate case study outlook" - priority is assigned to the order of
the words.

HELPFUL HINT - If you are interested in more easily finding parts of
web pages you're interested in, download the Google Toolbar and click
on the "highlight" button - it will highlight the words you most
recently searched for, wherever they appear on a web page. Allows you
to quickly scan a page for highlighted terms.

Best of luck, and thank you in advance for rating this question. If
you have any questions prior to rating, please do not hesitate to use
the question clarification feature and I will be happy to provide
additional information as needed/desired.

Best,
