I love Google! It's my drig of choice!

Is there a way to specify an exact phrase? For example, if I were to
search for "last hope", I would get "last hope", I would ALSO get
"...call at last. Hope your OK!"
I may not want the period! It gives me more hits, (which I can remove
eith -"last. Hope"), but what if it's a comma? E. G. "...you called her
at last, hopefully!" Or a question mark? "...is that the last? Hope
so." Perhaps a DOUBLE set of quotes? ""last hope"" would ensure that I
got only a space between "last" and "hope!" Can I indicate WORDs only?

Also, while I've got your attention, my keyboard is an old one; it has
a row of keys across the top, marked F1 through F12. F1 is reserved
for HELP by Microsoft, (ALL HALLOW THE NAME OF CHAIRMAN BILL!). What
do the other keys do? Some I've figured out, but others do weird things to
my screen, and I can't undo them!

You might consider being a trendsetter, and having standardized,
consistent mapping of these 12 keys. For example, on mainframes, many
years ago, F3 was "SAVE and EXIT" or "QUIT"; F7 was scroll down; F8
was scroll up, etc.

In addition, I would like a mode wherein I get the titles only. Instead

Hi, freewheeling-ga -- what a great question!

to
>> search for "last hope", I would get "last hope", I would ALSO get
>> "...call at last. Hope your OK!"

Try using +"last hope" instead. :) That will only match that exact
phrase - no punctuation, etc.

>> What do the other keys do? Some I've figured out, but others do
weird things
>> to my screen, and I can't undo them!

In Internet Explorer, the function keys do the following:

F1 Help
F3 Opens "Search" sidebar
F4 Drops down URL history so you can select from URLs you've
previously typed.
Alt+F4 Quit
F5 Reloads the current page
F10 Selects the menu bar at the top of the screen, which you can then
navigate with the arrow keys. Good to know if your mouse ever breaks.
F11 Toggles Fullscreen viewing mode

As was posted below by secret901-ga, you can use
://www.google.com/ie to begin the search, and only titles will be
returned.

I hope this works for you. If it doesn't, feel free to post a
clarification request. Thanks for your time and the good question.

Information for this answer was determined by experimentation -
although Google has a help page at
://www.google.com/help/index.html that would also be a valuable
reference to you.

I should mention that other than F1 for Help and Alt+F4 for quit,
function keys vary widely from program to program.

Hi freewheeling-ga,
Since I do not know the answer to your first two questions, I shall
post this as a comment:
If you want Google to return only titles and not descriptions, just go
to ://www.google.com/ie (which is used for the search toolbar on
IE). The results will only contain titles.
