Data storage is a method of inscribing information in to some sort of
permanent or semi-permanent format, and if you think about it, the
early cuneiform tablets of the earliest civilizations were a form of
data storage (see pic below), namely a way to record their language.
Nowadays, data storage is a very broad term used to describe how
computers store data. This can be many different forms some of which
you're very familiar with (CDs and DVDs) and some of which you may not
know of (plain paper punchcards). Computers take information that we
understand as letters, or sounds, or pictures, and convert it into an
internal representation of 1's and 0's which the computer understands,
and through different techniques can be recorded into temporary memory
such as hard drives or floppy discs, or more permanent solutions like
writeable CDs. If you have a specific form of data storage you have a
