Question ID: 148821
Are the only items listed in the drop-down search history of my Google
Toolbar items that I have typed in for a search, or can web sites that
I have visited as a result of my search somehow get onto the list. In
particular, can pop-up sites that have come in through my hotmail (and
that I open) be recorded in the item list without my typing them in?

Dear technopeasant,

What kind of browser are you using (i.e: MS Internet Explorer,
Netscape Nevigator, Mozilla, AOL).

I guess you are using Mr. Gates' fine products. Your problem might
have to do with the browser, rather than the site.

I am using Internet Explorer, but type in a search topic in my Google
Toolbar. I don't have any problem I just need to know if a web site
will record itself on the drop down search history.

Hi there,

One other way exists for a keyword to appear in the drop-down box of
the toolbar. If you visit the Google web site and do a search, the
keyword appears in the drop-down box, even though you didn't use the
toolbar to initiate the search.

Consequently, a link to a Google search has the same effect, when
followed:

Although a number of minor security flaws existed in a previous
version, including one which could allow a hacker to delete your
search history, none were found which could do what you have
described. If it was possible, I'm sure we would all have noticed it
by now, because that little search box is a powerful spot to place a
spam message.

Exploiting the Goolge Toolbar

So my answer is: yes there is a way, but it requires a browser window,
which has the toolbar displayed, visiting a Google search results URL.

Search keywords: "google toolbar" history

Best wishes,
