Dear Bronson9991,

Interesting question, I started going through German and Dutch sites
until I realized that he is probably an American. My guess is that
you are referring to the artist Richard Veenfliet. Born in West
Germany in 1843, he moved to New York in 1849 and died in 1922. He is
best known for postcards, but also known for watercolors.

Here are some of his postcards:

Unfortunately, I could not find any information on a “trout” painting.
I found a watercolor of his, “Pastoral Landscape with Grazing Sheep”
from 1920, which sold in an auction on November 10, 2002 for $1700.

Since I failed in finding information on your painting, I’ll post this
as a comment. Of course, if the information proves useful please let
me know and I’ll repost it as an answer.

Good luck searching!

RESPONSE TO TORQ-GA
YOUR RESPONSE MAKES SENSE.I WAS TOLD THAT THE PAINTER DIED AROUND
1920.
I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT ORIGANILLY CAME FROM NEW YORK CITY.I LIVE IN
NORTHERN NEW YORK NEAR LAKE PLACID.I WAS TOLD THE PAINTING CAME FROM
AN ESTATE OF AN OLDER MAN FROM NEW YORK CITY THAT HAD A SUMMER HOME
NEAR LAKE PLACID.THE NAME MAY HAVE BEEN TRUDEAU BUT I AM NOT SURE.
THE PAINTING IS 12 INCHES BY 40 INCHES.IT IS A PAINTING OF 19 RAINBOW
TROUT
SWIRLING AROUND A FISHERMANS DRY FLY.WHEN I AQUIRED THE PAINTING AN
ANTIQUE DEALER REFERRED TO IT AS "RAINBOW TROUT UNDER WATER" HE ALSO
SAID THE ARTIST WAS KNOWN FOR LANDSCAPES.
