Does the College Board have any age or educational restrictions on who
can take the SAT test? I took the SAT test in high school more than
45 years ago and did not do well. And I recently graduated from
college (magna Cum Laude) with my four-year degree. I want to apply
to medical school. I know someone who got a perfect score on the SAT
and received a full scholarship to a top medical school in California.
That's why I want to know if I can re-take the SAT.

cyntlhiadiane,

Thanks for your question. There is no age nor grade restrictions for
taking the SAT. All scores are reported to colleges, however, they
typically look at the most recent scores. However, if you are
applying to medical school and have already taken the SAT to get into
undergraduate, I would say the chances are slim that by taking it
again, now after you have already graduated, that it will get you a
scholarship for med school. Besides, getting a 1600 on the SAT
is not as simple as just taking the test again. The fact that the
date shown as when you took the test would, I would think, definitely
be considered. I would recommend you speak with your friend and learn
more about the requirements for the scholarship they received. I
would hazard a guess there was more to it than just the SAT scores.

Where you want to excel will be in the Medical College Admission Test
or MCAT. This will be the score the medical schools will be most
interested in, along with your undergraduate performance. Almost all
medical schools require the MCAT for admission. You can learn more
about the MCAT at http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/start.htm.

Also, you can find information about financial aid for medical school
at FinAid, http://www.finaid.org/otheraid/medical.phtml. The majority
of med school scholarships are given by the schools themselves,
however there are a few out there that are covered on this page. Also,
you may find some scholarships available for specific specialties.
You can find some of these at
http://scholarships.kachinatech.com/scholar6.html

Thanks again for your question and I hope the above information has
been helpful. If you need any additional clarification, please let me
know prior to rating my answer. Good luck!
