Shortly after opening a folder (any folder) on my WinXP Home system,
error box messages (with red X) apear that read: Windows Explorer
application eorror: 'memory could not be written' and then, 'memory
could not be red' and then sometimes: "Connections Tray error." Then
the system must be rebooted. Shutting down system and restarting does
not help. System was normal for about a month and then started doing
this. No new apps. have been installed. MS KNowledgeBase article #
329692 is the closest I could find, I'm going to try it. Anything I
can do to avoid a complete system rebuild? System is networked using
Novell Netware client 4.x,.

If these errors seem independent of software changes, than you might
have bad ram. If you go to a computer show, you'll find vendors who
have ram testers who will test ram for free (tell them you want to
trade in the ram for more but don't know if it works).

Try open the registry editor:
  - Start Menu
  - click "Run..."
  - type "regedit"
  - click "OK"

find this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser
Helper Objects

At this location, if you have any key that look like this:
 {********-****-****-****-*************}
      (any numbers and letter)

rename the key to something different.

Example:    {CE92F0E4-87AD-11D3-B713-00C04F8F6C86}
rename to:  {----CE92F0E4-87AD-11D3-B713-00C04F8F6C86}

Do this for all keys. This will have the effect of deactivating the
Browser Helper Objects, which are plugins loaded each time you open a
explorer window.

Restart the computer.
