paynehertz..

Thanks for your question. There were 10 starters in the 1980 Belmont.
Temperance Hill finished first, Genuine Risk placed (2nd) and
Rockhill Native showed (3rd). Rumbo, who finished second behind
Genuine Risk in the 1980 Kentucky Derby, finished 5th. Here are the
final results of the 1980 Belmont:

Temperance Hill-1st
Genuine Risk-2nd
Rockhill Native-3rd
Comptroller-4th
Rumbo-5th
Super Moment-6th
Codex-7th
Joanie's Chief-8th
Bing-9th
Pikotazo-10th

Thanks again for your question and I hope the above information has
been helpful. If you need any additional clarification, please let me
know prior to rating my answer.

Was there and inquiry? Did Genuine Risk get disqualified and moved
back to 3rd? Your answer was wonderfully detailed and I loved
listening to the call!

Every listing of the results that I found had Genuine Risk finishing 2nd:

re: your ? on genuine risk's "dq" (disqualification): perhaps you're
thinking of the controversial 1980 preakness, in which genuine
finished second. the winner was codex, ridden by the legendary angel
cordero jr., who strategically forced genuine risk to go very wide
turning for home at old hilltop (pimlico race track). some fans &
horsemen alike assumed codex would be disqualified & placed second,
moving genuine up into the win spot. but not so: the stewards deemed
it was intimidation only on cordero's part, since the 2 horses never
actually brushed (touched each other).
hope this helps!
