Where is the best place to submit a paper on the origins of the solar system? The paper is highly technical and backed up mathematically. The desire is to have it reviewed and published. The author (a relative who asked me to seek this information)is an accomplished scientist in a different field and not a part of the academic scene. |

Hi, zenberg.. Thanks for your interesting question. Congratulations to your relative on his paper. There are several steps he/she will want to follow to submit the paper to the proper academic journal. The first thing I would recommend would be to review "How do I submit a scientific paper to a scientific journal?" at http://www.scidev.net/archives/hdi_popups/submit_journal.html. This will give them an idea of what journals are looking for. Once they feel the paper is ready to be submitted, there are many, many astronomy related journals they can submit it to. You can find an extremely thourough listing of astronomy related journals at http://www.library.umaine.edu/sec/curtis/info4au/default.htm I have listed several of the leading jounrals from that list below along with links for submission criteria. The Astronomical Journal http://www.astro.washington.edu/astroj/general2.html Astronomy http://www.astronomy.com/content/static/magazine/contrib/default.asp Solar Physics http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/0038-0938 The Astronomy and Astrophysics Review http://link.springer.de/link/service/journals/00159/instr.htm Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/PASP/instruct.html Astronomy and Astrophysics http://opserv.obspm.fr/bertout/page2.html Planetary and Space Science http://authors.elsevier.com/GuideForAuthors.html?PubID=200 Space Science Reviews http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/0038-6308 Earth, Moon, and Planets http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/0167-9295 Meteorics and Planetary Science http://cavern.uark.edu/~meteor/ Additional listings of astronomy journals can be found at: Rhodes University-The Burrows Library-Astronomy Journals http://www.rhodes.edu/physicshtmls/astrojrnls.html The Illinois State Academy of Science - Astronomy Journals http://www.il-st-acad-sci.org/astrjrnl.html Thanks for your question and I hope the above information is helpful for you and the author of the paper.
