Hi there!
This answer has two parts to it, depending on what sort of plan you
have with BT Cellnet (now also known as O2). As you probably know, BT
Cellnet offers a pay monthly program, as well as a pay as you go
service.
If you're on a monthly program, BT Cellnet offers a service called
"MMail" that allows anyone to send an e-mail directly to any mobile on
the BT Cellnet network. According to their service page at:
http://www.btcellnet.net/MMO2-ext/dm/page.jsp?page=pdp_serv_mmail
The service is easily activated by "sending a text message, containing
the single word ON, to short code 212." Then, you would be able to
receive an e-mail sent to your phone. BT Cellnet says the following
about the address:
"Your Mmail address is your full international mobile number followed
by @mmail.co.uk
For example: +447801123456@mmail.co.uk"
The page I referenced above contains further full instructions.
If you are a BT Cellnet pay as you go customer, or don't want to use
e-mail, there are several web-based services that allow you to send
SMS messages to mobile phones.
Genie, which merged with BT Cellnet to form O2, provides a free
web-based SMS service:
http://www.genie.co.uk/public/gmail/index.html
Lycos UK also offers a way to send SMS to any UK mobile:
http://sms.lycos.co.uk/mobile/index.jsp
[Click on "FREE SMS" on the left-hand toolbar]
The above two services are free to use, but do require registration.
Please note BT Cellnet may charge you for receiving SMS (or MMmail)
messages depending on your service plan.
I hope this has answered your question satisfactorily. If you require
any further clarification, don't hesitate to ask!
To help answer your question, I visited http://www.btcellnet.co.uk as
