Question ID: 155311
In 1940 Otis Elevator Co. in Philadelphia. PA had an ofice at 902 N
19th St. (AKA: 19th & Poplar). My Grandfather (Godfrey R. (Ruhland)
REBMANN) was an officer with the CO. in Phila. He reportedly retired from Otis
in 1945, and died May 5, 1947 (age=85). He reportedly was a director and VP in
charge of the Phila office. His home address was 216 Glenn Rd,
Ardmore, PA.

Want to find out WHAT HIS POSITION WAS when he retired, or before. He
came to Otis when Mores, Williams Co. was acquired by Otis in 1898.

Possibly the Phila. or Suburban Phila. City Directory might have the
info. Being on MS makes this a bit difficult.

Many thanks.

Walter

Snow in Philadelphia last week prevented a friend of mine from running
the search for the obituary for Godfrey Rebmann. I still hope to be
able to acquire it from the Philadelphia Inquirer and will post
something when I do.

Latest info. indicates GRR retired in 1946. Can not find what
clarification you would an answer to - if I have it. Please let me
know.

Do you have ANYONE who has access to the Philly City Directories in
the main library on Vine St.? From MS to PA is a long way. I would
start a new Q. if the answer is affirm.

Best from here.....Walter

Am sure you know this, but our Government does NOT release census
info. for 72 years-don't ask me why. The 1930 census would work just
as well. Hope this may be of some help.
Best from here, Walter

I haven't forgotten you but the weather and other business has gotten
in the way of completing the task in Philadelphia, where I've asked a
friend to check the newspaper archives.

He will not be able to complete the task in the next week; you may
wish to re-post the Godfrey Rebmann question after it expires. We
still hope to find the detailed obituary from the Philadelphia
Inquirer for you that should have his Otis Elevator information.

Best regards,

Hi Omniverous-ga - Is there some way to auto-renew the 30 day
expiration date. Realize you don't have a dog sled to get to the
library:)
Keep warm. We have nothing but rain here in MS, like 10+ inches.

I'm actually in Seattle; I'm just relying on a friend who's
volunteered to chase the obit down (I told him it would be easy to
find -- ha!)

I'm not sure how to change the date (though we researchers often use
Google Answers ourselves). You might have to copy-and-paste a new
question.

To add to aceresearcher's reference, my guess is that the most
complete information on Godfrey R. Rebmann would come from what's
probably a lengthy obituary in the Philadelphia newspapers on May 1,
1947. That'll undoubtedly be a search of Pennsylvania libraries with
good newspaper archives.

You have already provided the Obit. for G.R. Rebmann. (N.Y. Times)
Know he was working at Otis in 1940 +/-, probably as a V.P. The
Philadelphia City Directory (or Suburban one) seems to be the best bet
from what others have said. Are they accessable to you?

Walter --

I don't have access to the city directory. The Philadelphia obits
should be much more detailed than the New York newspaper, as he and
his wife lived in Ardmore, PA and were very active in the community.

Some good news: I've taken some steps to try to acquire it and should
know something by the end of this week. I'll post a Clarification
Request for you (even if I fail) so that you'll get an e-mail notice.
