MB8 –

After posting the comment below, I realized that I could probably
search the New York Times archive and find quite a few dealers from
display and classified advertisements. Indeed, using Proquest
Historical newspapers (a fee service available from many public
libraries), here's what we found in the 1966 issues of the Times. Of
course, some of these are in other New York boroughs:

Cohler Corp.
125 & Broadway
Phone: UN-5-4400

HB Leasing Corp.
208-24 Northern Boulevard
Bayside, Long Island
BA-5-8181

HB Leasing Corp.
342 E. 39th
New York City
679-8930

Bob Hirsch, Inc.
1532 86th Street
Brooklyn, NY
BE-6-9400

Gallagher Dodge
(address unknown)
KI-8-2800

Stevens Dodge
Queens, NY
VI-9-1616

Future Motors, Inc.
49-21 Northern Blvd.
Long Island, NY
932-1900

There were at least 58 Dodge dealers in the New York area at that
time, as company policies made local dealers so irate that they hired
Roy M. Cohn to take legal action against the corporation in October,
1966. They formed the Metropolitan Independent Dodge Dealers
Association, largely because of fear of factory-owned dealerships.
(If the name of Roy Cohn sounds familiar, it's because he was the
lawyer who worked with Sen. Joseph McCarthy during the infamous
Communist witch hunt.)

Google search strategy:
Use Proquest Historical newspaper search of NY Times archive for
"Dodge dealer."

Now you've made me nostalgic for my second car – a 1966 Dodge Dart
with a slant 6 engine!

I've no doubt that other GA Researchers have attempted to answer your
question and I wanted you to know that after trying numerous search
combinations of 1966, Dodge and the areas you mention, I had no luck
in locating the information you seek. It may be out there on the
Internet but I was unable to find it.

I would suggest you query any newspapers in those areas that were in
business in 1966 and either visit them to examine their back issues
for 1966 (for the advertisements) or ask for a few photocopied
editions of the newspapers from that year. The newspapers will no
doubt charge you for photocopies but this may be a viable way for you
to locate the information.

Good luck!

It's a little unclear whether you're seeking dealerships in business
TODAY that were also selling Dodges in 1966 or just dealership names
for that year.

If you're near the New York area, the best recourse would be to find a
library with Yellow Page phone directories from 1966.
