pressure groups) would discuss Gillette UK performance in the
following areas:

Stock performance
CEO reputation and performance
Board of Directors reputation and performance
Corporate social responsibility (ie way they treat the community and
deal with pollution issues)

I'm anticipating seeing specialist news sites, chat rooms etc....

Hello, jcs2000-ga

This was an interesting and somewhat difficult search. It was a
challenge to restrict my search to sites in the UK, and also often
hard to distinguish between Gillette and Gillette UK. Since the
companies are related, searches often came up for Gillette on UK
sites.

I hope this information is helpful. I was unable to find anything
that dealt specifically with the CEO's of Gillette UK on any UK sites.
I did find references to the CEO of US based Gillette, but I knew you
were not interested in that information.

"There are only a few businesses worth buying."
The best businesses are like toll bridges, which their customers have
to pay to cross if they want to reach their destination. This enables
them to piggyback on the growth of other, less fortunately placed
businesses.

Gillette as an example:

"Most companies have to advertise to make their customers aware of
their products and services, which means advertising companies cream
off a steady percentage of their sales growth in the form of fees. Most
men have to shave their faces daily, and most women shave their legs.

GILLETTE UK LIMITED
BRAND NAMES: Sensor, Sensor Excel, Sensor Excel for Women, Blue II,
Series, Right Guard, Natrel Plus, Oral-B
"In November 1996 the Gillette Company publicly announced that no
laboratory animals had been used to test personal care or other
consumer products or ingredients during the 1996 reporting period, and
that for the third consecutive year, no laboratory animals had been
used for research and safety testing or cosmetic products or
ingredients.

None of our Gillette blade and razor products, including Gillette
Sensor, Coutour and Blue II, nor the Gillette Series grooming range,
have been tested on animals. No animal testing has been carried out
for at least the past five years on any other products which are sold
under the Gillette trademark in Europe, including Right Guard and
Natrel Plus.

Based on this information, PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of
Animals) has informed us that it has chosen to end its campaign
against Gillette. The Company remains committed to the achievement of
our corporate objective to eliminate as soon as possible the need for
laboratory animal tests in all our products".

Additional Information

The following article focuses on US investment in the UK, and
certainly portrays Gillette in a good light:
 Read "U.K. welcomes U.S. trade,investment and tourism." A Special
International Report Prepared by The Washington Times Advertising
Department - Published on September 27, 2000
http://www.internationalspecialreports.com/europe/00/englandireland/
Excerpt:
"Two-thirds of American headquarters are U.K.-based. The United
Kingdom is the business capital of Europe," said Andrew Fraser, former
chief executive of the Invest in Britain Bureau (IBB). As of July 5,
the IBB became Invest-UK. Because some American brands are so
familiar, many British citizens think these companies are British.
Ford has been in the United Kingdom since 1923. Dupont established
itself in Northern Ireland more than four decades ago. Kellogg’s,
Gillette, Ford and Vauxhall (GM) are deeply embedded in British
culture, Fraser explained.

"The Messy Reality of Socially Responsible Business," by Jon Entine at
http://216.239.53.100/search?q=cache:M5fPDN6hr8EC:articles.animalconcerns.org/ar-voices/archive/business_ethics.html++Gillette+UK++corporate++ethics&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
has some interesting points to make concerning environmental
responsibility.
Excerpt:
"Are retail firms led by outspoken, charismatic visionaries such as
Ben Cohen or Anita Roddick more responsible than grayer companies such
as Cummins Engine or Gillette, which quietly but conscientiously
involve themselves in their communities, open their corporate
practices to outside scrutiny, and develop intensely loyal
workforces?"
 Who Are the "Good Guys"?
"Gillette, which has spent tens of millions of dollars to develop
alternatives to animal tests and publishes the details and scientific
rationale of every test that it performs; or The Body Shop, which has
helped spark an international debate on the necessity of animal
testing yet has spent nothing to finance alternative research, been
condemned (and even sued) by animals rights activists for demagoguing
the issue, and uses tested-on-animals ingredients in many of its
beauty products?"

I'm about to go away for the weekend, and therefore cannot give this
question the time it requires. One area other researchers might wish
to investigate is the issue of animal testing. I believe Gillette is
on the lists put out by various activist groups.
