I would like to find the title and author of a poem (and possibly a
book containing that poem) that appeared in a textbook in Texas middle
schools in the 1950's. The poem is about a French Canadian girl
captured by Indians as a child and rescued against her will several
years later. Some lines from the poem, as I remember them, are:
"turned her head from the convent food," "tamed
somewhat, years later, and wed," and the last line, "in a tongue not
French, and a strange wild tune." Thank you.
