Afternoon, Johnny! I hope you're well today!

Tracking down the ingredient list for the L'Oreal Kerastase Nutritive
Bain Satin Shampoo, Factor 3 might take a little doing. I haven't
been able to find the list online yet.

I'll call around to see who has it, and keep you posted!

Hiya!

I've made the rounds of the beauty supply shops in my neighborhood,
and no one carries this product. I'm afraid I won't be able to get
any further tonight, but I'll resume tomorrow and call the salons and
supply shops elsewhere in town.

I'm sorry I won't have an answer tonight! Please be patient, and I'll
keep you apprised of my progress.

how is it coming?

Hi Johnny,

Here is what I've been able to find out so far about Kerastase:

-- Kerastase is only available online or through "Kerastase Consultant
Salons" - L'Oreal "certifies" certain select salons to carry the
product.

-- Kerastase does not have a US website. You can see the other
existing ones here:

http://www.kerastase.com

-- Kerastase *does* have a product information line: (877) 748-8357
. However, the line is only open Monday through Friday, from 9AM -
5PM EST, and I only just found it at 8:30PM. Arrgh.

I've already called 30 salons and beauty supply shops in Toledo today,
and I struck out at all of them. My best chances of finding a
supplier in an expedient fashion is going to be to use Kerastase's
product information line. That will have to wait until Monday.

I've also e-mailed the nice people at L'Oreal to ask for an ingredient
list. I suspect they keep regular business hours (M-F, 9-5), so I
have no idea how soon they will get back to me - if they do at all.

I will call more salons tomorrow to see if any carry the product, but
I think the best chance of locating will require either speaking to or
receiving an e-mail response from L'Oreal. This one has been quite a
challenge!

I'll let you know more as I have the information.

Hey! Where'd you get those?! Are you trying to play "Perplex Missy"?
;)

Yes, absolutely, you can have your answer tonight. There are a couple
unfamiliar items in there, but it's getting easier to find things
(you've given me lots of practice!) Check back between 11:30PM and
midnight.

Hi Johnny!

Thank you so much for providing me with the ingredient list for
L’Oreal’s Keratase Bain Satin Shampoo #3. It’s much easier to find
what you need when I have an ingredient list to work from, and I
appreciate your taking the time to transcribe the list!

These are the ingredients we’ve already discussed on other answers:

Water
Sodium laureth sulfate
Sodium chloride
Disodium cocoamphodiacetate
Glycol disterate,
Polyquaternium 10
Dmdm hydantoin
Methylparben
Fragrance/ parfum

You can find explanations of these ingredients on our other
discussions and evaluations:

As ever, if you’d like a refresher, just ask and I’ll be glad to
re-explain whichever ingredient you like.

The following ingredients are new to our investigations:

**Sodium methylparben – a preservative.

“…Added as preservatives are sodium benzoate 0.1%, sodium
methylparaben 0.1%…”

DrugInfo.net
http://www.druginfonet.com/pepcid.htm

**Cocamide mipa – a surfactant and emulsifier/stabilizer. Related to
cocamide DEA/MEA, may be somewhat drying.

“Cocamide Mipa: emulsifying agents / emulsion stabilisers /
surfactants / viscosity controlling agents”
Inventory of ingredients used in cosmetic products
http://dg3.eudra.org/F3/inci/inciaco.htm#1189

**Hexylene glycol – a solvent, to facilitate blending of ingredients

“Hexylene glycol is a water-white, moderately hygroscopic glycol. It
has
exceptional solvency for a variety of materials and is miscible with
aliphatic and
aromatic hydrocarbons as well as with polar substances such as water,
fatty
acids, and alcohols”

**Disodium ricinoleamido mea-sulfosuccinate – a moisturizer,
surfactant and foam booster. Very mild.

“exceptionally mild co-surfactant compatible with anionic, nonionic,
amphoteric surfactants (also useful as primary surfactant ),
especially suitable for products for delicate skin & baby shampoos,
good foaming & cleansing effects, also useful as secondary o/w
emulsifier”

Sulfosuccinate

**Tartaric acid – a skin toner. Mild.

“Tartaric Acid - A type of glycolic acid (fruit acid) derived from
apples. Improves skins texture and tone.”

**Carbomer – a thickener

“White powder that reacts with fatty particles forming thick and
stable emulsions. It is mostly used as thickener and as gelling agent,
like a wax.”

For the sake of easy comparison, I’m going to re-list the ingredients
for Graham Webb’s Super Silk:

Purified Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sesame Oil, Disodium
Cocoamphodiacetate, Soybean Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Cocamidopropyl
Betaine, Thermacore complex (Allantoin, Panthenol, 1-Tetradecanol),
Hydrolyzed Silk, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Lauramide DEA,
Polyquaternium-7, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dimethicone Copolyol,
Tetrasodium EDTA, Glycol Distearate, Guar Hydroxy-Propyltrimonium
Chloride, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Dimethyl Hydroxymethyl
Pyrazole, Fragrance

Notice that both shampoos contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate (somewhat
drying) as the primary surfactant, and Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate
(very mild) just a little further down on the list. The L’Oreal
product additionally contains a very mild stabilizing agent, ensuring
that this product is gentle to the hair and scalp.

Comparing the ingredient lists, it’s apparent to me that both shampoos
will cleanse equally well, and will be quite mild and non-irritating.
The edge, however, belongs to the Graham Webb product. In addition to
being mild, Graham Webb’s Super Silk is jammed with natural
moisturizing ingredients such as Sesame Oil, Soybean Oil, Rice Bran
Oil and Allantoin, as well as the “pro-vitamin” Panthenol, and
hydrolized silk and wheat protein to promote strong, healthy hair.

This is not to say that the L’Oreal product would be harmful to your
hair or scalp – it appears to be as gentle as baby shampoo – but the
Graham Webb product has extra goodies to help your hair maintain
moisture, shine and strength.

I hope this is helpful to you! If I can be of further assistance,
please just ask for clarification and I’ll be glad to help!

Happy Friday!
