Dear marilynal-ga; Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question. It wont be necessary to hire a service to map the waterways for you because its already been done. SOFTCHARTS INTERNATIONAL http://www.softcharts.com/ offers a variety of maps and mapping software that can be used as both a navigational tool onboard a vessel or as a source for printing off hard copy navigational charts prior to departure. If you are dead set on having your own maps made, SOFTCHARTS advises that they will custom chart any map in either print form or on CD. Be sure to check out their large catalog and their online sample charts. They also offer at least two fully functional charts for download so you can give them a try as well as an interactive map so you can give the charting software a test drive. The closer you zoom in the great the detail becomes. (Actually, I found both of them to be quite fascinating). I have no personal or professional connection or previous involvement with this company whatsoever, but in researching your question their name came up time and time again in my searches for navigational charts. Obviously there are other sources for charts (as seen in this article by the NOAA http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/nsd/ but none that I found appeared to offer what SOFTCHARTS does, especially not in the same price range. Below you will find that I have carefully defined my search strategy for you in the event that you need to search for more information. By following the same type of searches that I did you may be able to enhance the research I have provided even further. I hope you find that that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us. Thank you for a quick response. We will use soft charts as recommended. We are seasoned boaters but have not been in those waters. Plan a trip in the Fall. |
